Mark began working at Architechniques, Ltd. when he was still attending college earning his degree. After graduation he relocated to St. Louis gaining experience in large retail and commercial developments. In 2000, he came back to Architechniques, Ltd. and took control of the firms governmental sector of work. In 2003, he became a licensed architect in Illinois and Wisconsin and purchased shares in the company. While still managing the governmental sector, he grew our long-term care, public housing, and private housing sectors. In addition to acting as one of the 2 principal architects, he also managed and implemented all information technology systems and advancement.  In 2017 Mark sold most of his shares in the firm, becoming a minority owner.  He subsequently has relocated to Texas.  He still consults with the company and is involved in some of the design process on projects and in marketing of the firm in Texas on a limted basis.

Since selling most of his shares of ownership, and becoming a minority owner in percentage, Mark has taken a position in Texas (outside the practice of architecture).  Mark stll maintains an investment in the firm, and is interested in the success of Architechniques.  He consults on various projects, and with the rest of the group in ownership of the firm on direction and courses of action that the firm should take on marketing, and financial matters.  Mark is also involved in marketing the firm in Texas, on a limited basis.

As one of the principal and majority owners Mark's responsiblities included client contact, marketing, governance of the firm, including implementation of the vision and goals of the firm.  Mark’s primary responsibility was the governmental sector projects of the firm, mainly dealing with the Illinois Capital Development Board, but also including some local governmental entities. He also grew the long-term care sector, and public housing sector.  Mark was also the catalyst for implementing the firms expansion into B.I.M. and in expanding our cloud based computing and project management archives.

Project Manager/Project Architect, Architechniques, Ltd.
Herrin, Illinois — 2000-2003

As a project manager and project architect Mark’s responsibilities included day-to-day management of the various project in his charge. These duties would include design, estimating, generating construction documents, bidding services and construction administration. In addition to his architectural duties he began implementing information technology systems to stabilize and advance the company’s technology infrastructure.

As a technician Mark was involved in work on the construction documents for several high profile clients in the St. Louis area including Dierberg’s Markets’ corporate headquarters, the City Place office complex, and Chesterfield Commons.

As a technician in this small office environment, Mark was able to assist the project manager’s in their duties, but was also given opportunities to design which included an innovative layout for Dr. Lori Guyton’s new offices.

Mark’s undergraduate degree at SIU gave him an excellent basis of understanding in architecture and the skill set necessary to quickly be productive for employers. The down-to-earth understanding of materials, methods, detailing and real world design he learned while at SIUC have been the basis for all his future growth in the profession.
